AT&T and Verizon have both announced that they will no longer be providing 3G cellular service. AT&T’s 3G service will end on February 22nd, 2022, while Verizon’s 3G service will end on December 31st, 2022.
Why is this concerning?
While this is not a concern for most cell phone users as most smartphones are 4G or 5G, this is concerning for cellular emergency phones as many still make calls over 3G. Because of the rugged and durable nature of blue light emergency phones, many cellular blue light phones still use 3G—especially considering 4g/LTE only began in 2012.
