From the beginning, and for more than a dozen years, Emcom has supported Sound Transit’s expanding light rail communications system of platform Passenger Emergency Telephones (PETs) and wayside Emergency Telephones (ETELs), all Emcom phones. The Sound Transit EmVista solution involved a head-end with redundant servers and local controllers that backstop the head-end in case of network or head-end failure.
In addition, the EmVista solution included a custom party-line scheme for ETELs, as required by Sound Transit, as well as hosting a third-party public address application. As Sound Transit’s light rail has expanded, its phone network has, too — doubling in size since inception, an increase absorbed seamlessly by its EmVista system.
